A large number of devotees from various parts of the country thronged the famous Saibaba temple here and paid obeisance to Baba on the occasion of 'Gurupoornima' on Tuesday.
Maharashtra ministers Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, his father and former Union Minister Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil, Babanrao Pachpute, the Guardian Minister of Ahmednagar district, and former Saibaba Sansthan's chairman Jayant Sasane also visited the temple.
About 150 foreigners also visited the shrine while an NRI donated USD 33,000 to the Sansthan on the occasion and another devotee donated a 90 gm gold necklace, sources said.
Earlier, Sansthan's chairman and Principal District Judge of Ahmednagar, Jayant Kulkarni performed a special 'puja' at the temple.
The Sansthan provided free meals to over 75,000 people on the occasion, sources said, adding that various religious programmes were being organised during the three-day Gurupoornima festival.
'Gurupoornima' was also observed in various temples in Nashik and the neighbouring pilgrimage town of Trimbakeshwar.
Three-day Guru-Purnima festival at the famous Saibaba temple here concluded on Wednesday, with about four lakh devotees from different parts of the country visiting the shrine.
The temple trust received Rs 4.14 crore through donations, including cash of Rs 2.62 crore in the cash-boxes, trust sources said.
This included Rs 2.62 crore in cash, 727 grams gold ornaments and 5 kg of silver, an official of Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan said.
The donations this year were higher because of a large influx of NRI and foreign national devotees who flocked to Shirdi on the occasion of Guru Poornima.
The Sansthan had to use note counting machines to count the huge amount of cash donated by the devotees. The coins were collected in a large number of pails. The currency notes included Indian rupees, Euros, US dollars and British pounds.
Currency notes from 31 countries were found in the donation box. These include 5,493 US dollars compared to 2,264 US dollars collected last year. 620 British pounds were donated compared to 185 British pounds donated last year.
